Well-confectioned and homemade food; that is what is eaten here. Shrimp Crêpes, English-style Roast-beef, and French-style Poultry Liver are just some of the delicacies one can savour. In addition to the fixed menu of meat and fish dishes, steaks, omelettes, salads, and desserts galore, Café no Chiado has different special dishes to offer everyday. The average cost of a meal is between 15 and 20 Euros. And, in line with the rhythms of this part of the city, the Café also carries an “Off-Peak Hours” menu so that those frequenters of the Chiado can enjoy meals and snacks at their preferred times of day.
In terms of space, the Café no Chiado invites one to stay and enjoy many special moments. The décor is sophisticated and minimalist. There are 40 seats available in the cosy interior room, equipped with a fireplace for those cold days and with walls covered in Portuguese culture. From Sofia de Mello Breyner’s poetry, to Graça Morais’s paintings, to Homem Cardoso’s photography: many of these pieces are the works of consecrated Portuguese artists of various genres that turn the Café no Chiado into a space with an exclusive ambience. But, if you simply feel like sipping on the atmosphere of a historic neighbourhood such as the Chiado, then have a seat outside on the pleasant patio, where 40 seats will leave no one standing. |
